San Bernardino, CA – The San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) has been awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and an Award for Outstanding Achievement for Popular Financial Reporting for our Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.

SBCERA Reports Preliminary +33% Investment Returns for Fiscal Year 20-21

The San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) is proud to report a preliminary +33% net return on investments for the 12-month period that ended June 30, 2021.
SBCERA has made a strong recovery after a tough fiscal year end result in June 2020 and has earned over $3 billion in gains in the fiscal year, with an ending Net Asset Value (NAV) of $13.4 billion as of June 30, 2021. The strong fiscal year return was driven by investments in Private Equity, Credit, Public Equity, Emerging Market Equity, and Small Cap Equity.

2021 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)
This year’s 2.0% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will be effective April 1, 2021. The SBCERA Board of Retirement approved the COLA for Retirees and Beneficiaries at its Board meeting on February 4, 2021.

As we reflect on this last year, I am full of gratitude for our team here at SBCERA and for our partnership with all of you—our valued members and public servants who serve our San Bernardino communities. There’s no doubt 2020 has been one of the most challenging years of our lifetime. The coronavirus pandemic and economic uncertainty have been difficult for everyone.
Alameda Case Updates
The SBCERA Board of Retirement has adopted several resolutions to address the California Supreme Court’s decision issued on July 30, 2020 in the case known as Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association et al. v. Alameda County Employees’ Retirement Association and Board of Retirement of ACERA (S247095, also known as “the Alameda case”).
