2021 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)

This year’s 2.0% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will be effective April 1, 2021. The SBCERA Board of Retirement approved the COLA for Retirees and Beneficiaries at its Board meeting on February 4, 2021.

As we reflect on this last year, I am full of gratitude for our team here at SBCERA and for our partnership with all of you—our valued members and public servants who serve our San Bernardino communities.  There’s no doubt 2020 has been one of the most challenging years of our lifetime.  The coronavirus pandemic and economic uncertainty have been difficult for everyone.

RESBC and PGA Benefits

The Retired Employees of San Bernardino County (RESBC) and Pacific Group Agencies (PGA) have recently mailed information to some retirees regarding their open enrollment period. Since SBCERA does not administer health or vision coverage and simply facilitates the deduction, our staff cannot answer specific questions regarding these changes.

Our office is open to members and visitors, and staff is working and available to serve you during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 8am – 5pm). Any health-related precautions or requirements for visitors will be posted on site.

SBCERA Launches New Website to Better Serve Its Members & Stakeholders

This year, the San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) is marking 75 years of service to our members. As we pass this historic milestone, we’re heading into the future with the launch of our new website­—specially tailored for those we serve. Our new site will also help us more effectively provide you with the latest updates and information, with many of our services currently shifting online due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Alameda Case Update—Oral Argument to be held on May 5, 2020

April 20, 2020

On April 15, 2020, San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) received notice of the date for the California Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in the case known as Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association et al. v. Alameda County Employees’ Retirement Association and Board of Retirement of ACERA (S247095) (“Alameda”). The Court set oral argument for May 5, 2020. On that date, the Court will hear issues concerning several pay items for legacy members of County Employees’ Retirement Law of 1937 (CERL) systems.
