Retirement Planning Tables

Below are some of the resources SBCERA offers to assist you with planning for retirement and learning about your benefits.

  • Member Direct SBCERA’s secure online member service tool that allows you to access your SBCERA retirement account when you want, where you want.
    • Active & Deferred Members: Access details about your account including your account balance, designated beneficiaries, whether you are vested and your first eligible date to retire. In addition, you can create your own benefit estimates, access pre-filled forms, register for a seminar and request an appointment.
    • Retired Members & Beneficiaries: Access details about your benefit payment including your last benefit amount, direct deposit accounts and tax withholding elections. You can also view and print your direct deposit advices, estimate your tax withholding and request duplicate copies of your Form 1099-Rs.

     

  • Annual Member Statements –  Each year you receive a member statement summarizing your retirement account. Active members receive their statement about a month after their birthday. Deferred members receive their statements once a year around July. Please review your statement and contact SBCERA if you find errors. You can view and print your member statements online.
  • Benefit Estimator By logging into Member Direct, you can create your own benefit estimates based on different retirement dates and beneficiaries. In addition, you can override your years of service credit and final average compensation to see how your benefit changes if you purchased additional service credit or increased your final average compensation.
  • Brochures, FAQs and Retirement 101s – Find additional information and answers to common SBCERA topics such as termination options, service credit purchases and reciprocity.
  • The Compass: Navigating Your Retirement Benefit Plan – More formally known as the Summary Plan Description, The Compass provides you with general information about the SBCERA retirement plan provisions and benefits offered. This document is available in a PDF or an enhanced digital format. You can also request to have the latest version mailed to you.
  • E-Alerts – Sign up to receive email alerts from SBCERA for information such as when the Board of Retirement agenda or minutes have been posted or a new Request for Proposals has been issued.
  • eCorrespondence  –  View and receive SBCERA communications electronically. With eCorrespondence, you will receive an email notification when your Quarterly Review newsletter, annual member statement and/or direct deposit advice is available online.
  • Retirement Planning Tables – Available for Tier 1 and Tier 2 members, these tables allow you to quickly and easily estimate your future retirement benefit. You can see how your retirement benefit grows as you get older and/or add years of service credit.
  • Mobile App – A useful tool for staying in touch with and informed about SBCERA and your retirement benefits. This free mobile app is available for download on Android, iPad, and/or iPhone mobile devices through Google Play or the iTunes App Store.
  • Pre-Retirement Checklist – As you approach retirement, use SBCERA’s pre-retirement checklist to be sure you are taking all of the recommended steps prior to your retirement.
  • Request an Appointment Online SBCERA Retirement Specialists are available to assist you throughout your career and at retirement. You can request an appointment online and SBCERA will contact you within one business day to confirm a date and time.
  • RSS Feed – Allows you to “subscribe” to news from SBCERA. With this feature, the latest information about your retirement plan can be delivered to your email, Smartphone or other RSS reader applications. Subscribe today.
  • Seminars – SBCERA hosts several seminars to help you prepare for retirement. Seminar types include new employee orientation, mid-career, pre-retirement, and custom seminars hosted by your employer or department.
