Since 2001, Tim Barrett has served as the Executive Director/Chief Investment Officer of SBCERA.  Under Mr. Barrett’s direction, SBCERA was named Mid-Sized Public Plan of the Year for 2007 by Money Management Letter.

Prior to this uppermost position, Mr. Barrett was the Plan’s Investment Manager.  He started with SBCERA in 1996 as the Project Manager—splitting time between technology and investment work. In addition to his director duties, Mr. Barrett shares his time and expertise with several professional groups including service on the European Strategic Partners Advisory Board of Standard Life Investments and the Lehman Brothers Secondary Opportunity Fund.  He was recently elected Vice President of the State Association of County Retirement Systems (SACRS).  Also, Mr. Barrett serves his community as a Board member on The Children’s Fund. 

Mr. Barrett earned both a BA in Business Administration (University of Montana) and a Master’s of Science in Financial and Tax Planning (San Diego State University). He also is a member of the CFA Institute and is a Charterholder of the CFA designation. 

Mr. Barrett lives with his wife, Jo-Anna, and their two young sons in Highland, California.  He cites his children and family as his top priorities and greatest pride.
